What this site collects

  • Your IP address, browser and the pages you visit, in the host's request logs. Handled by a hosting service.
  • Your IP address and browser, when your browser loads the typefaces. Handled by a font service.
  • A one-way scramble of your IP address, to stop abuse. Handled by Steed, and kept for at most 15 minutes.
  • The page you visit and the site that sent you there, added into daily totals of visits; a one-way scramble of your IP address and browser tells visits from visitors that day. Handled by Steed, and kept for the totals for as long as the site exists; the scramble until the end of the day it was made.
  • Where you came to this site from on this visit (the site that sent you, or the name of a campaign), with no name or id, sent with a message, booking or order you send in that visit so the owner knows how you found them. Handled by Steed.
  • Which page broke in your browser, and the error it hit, and what this site's own server code noted while handling a request from you; either can occasionally include something you typed there. Handled by Steed, and kept for 14 days.
  • When the owner asks Steed's AI for help running the business: your first name, when you booked or ordered, and what you wrote to the owner (a message, a reply, a review); what the site keeps about you when the owner asks about you, such as your name, email address or address. Never your payment details. Handled by an AI service.
  • Your email address. Handled by Steed.
  • What you write in a form, and any contact details you give in it, which are sent on to the owner. Handled by Steed and an email service.
  • If you give an email address, one email confirming your message arrived. Handled by Steed and an email service.
  • Your email address, when you join the list, to send you the list's emails. Handled by Steed and an email service.
  • Details the owner keeps about you as a customer, such as when you're next due. Handled by Steed.
  • What you give the site for an AI model to work from, such as your answers or your logs, and what it writes back for you. Handled by Steed and an AI service.
  • Your replies to this site's emails, and the address you reply from, kept with the site's records so the owner can answer you. Handled by Steed and an email service, and kept for the email as it arrived: until it is read onto your record, usually within minutes; one that cannot be read is deleted after about a day.
  • Which link you click in an email the owner writes to you, and when, kept with the site's records; never whether you opened one, and nothing in a receipt. Handled by Steed.
  • Each consent you give or take back on Your family (that you're the grown-up, photos, and later voice), with the wording you saw and when.. Handled by Steed.
  • That your card check passed, when, and the Stripe references for its charge and refund, when you do the card check.. Handled by Steed.
  • Each child's name or nickname, age, reading level, interests, favorite kinds of characters, story theme, things to avoid, and the family and pets in their stories, when you set up a child.. Handled by Steed.
  • Each character's look (skin tone, hair, glasses, favorite color) and a short description, when you build or approve a character.. Handled by Steed.
  • A photo of your child, only while it is turned into a character's look; it is never kept.. Handled by Steed and an AI service.
  • Each story made for your child: its title, words and painted pictures, and what you asked for that night, kept in your family library until you delete the child.. Handled by Steed and an AI service.

Who handles it

This site uses outside services for some of its work. Each is connected securely and handles only what its work needs, to protect your privacy and your data. A problem at one of them can sometimes affect this site.

  • An email service delivers this site's emails, and receives and briefly holds replies to them.

  • Stripe runs the card check: a small charge on your card, refunded right away, with its receipt emailed to you.
