Bellemade

Safety & privacy for parents

Rowan is the hero. You hold the keys.

Bellemade asks for things that matter: your child's photo, if you choose, and your voice. Here's exactly what happens to each, in plain words, before your child ever sees a story.

A sample grown-up gate

Grown-ups only

Settings and payments sit behind a gate like this one, so a child can't wander in by mistake.

Welcome, grown-up.

The life of a photo, in four pages.

A photo is optional. If you add one, this is its whole story, from the moment you choose it to the moment it's gone.

  1. Page 1

You choose to add one, or not.

Photos are optional. Before any photo is asked for, you've given your consent and passed a card check. Skip photos entirely and build each character's look by hand: skin tone, hair, glasses and more.

A friend of your child is always built by hand, because their parents haven't said yes.
  2. Page 2

    It becomes a storybook character.

AI turns the photo into an illustrated character. If the photo is blurry or has a group in it, you'll get a friendly "try another" message, and building by hand is always there instead.

  3. Page 3

Nothing goes in a story until you say yes.

You see the character first. If it isn't right, try again (you get a few tries). Stories are only ever illustrated with characters you've approved.

  4. Page 4

The photo is deleted. The character stays.

By default, the original photo is deleted once you approve the character. From then on, it's the illustrated character who goes on adventures, never the photo.

One yes at a time.

Each consent is its own, in plain language, and asked only when it's needed.

  1. 1

You sign in, and say you're the grown-up.

With your email and a 6-digit code. The account is yours, never your child's.

  2. 2

    A card check confirms it.

A small charge on your card, refunded right away, with an email telling you it happened and why. It comes before any photo or first story, and the free story itself is never charged.

  3. 3

    A yes for photos.

Separate from everything else, and only if you want to use one.

  4. 4

A yes for your voice, later.

Only if you record it. You say a consent line aloud before you read a short passage.

The bedtime rules every story follows.

Before a page is written, the story maker is given these rules, and your child's own list of things to avoid.

  1. It ends calm.Every story winds down toward sleep.
  2. Nothing frightening.Brave, funny or cozy, but never scary.
  3. Nothing on your avoid list.Afraid of the dark, or of dogs? They stay out of your child's stories.
  4. Only original characters.A child who loves a famous princess gets a brave ice princess of Bellemade's own.

Change your mind any night.

Every switch is yours to flip, right from your family settings, behind the grown-up gate.

Questions parents ask.

Do I have to upload a photo of my child?

No. Photos are optional. You can build every character's look by hand, with skin tone, hair, glasses and more, and the stories work just the same.

Why a card check, if the first story is free?

It's how we check that a grown-up is the one saying yes. It's a small charge that's refunded right away, and we email you to say it happened and why. It's kept on your record as proof of your consent. Your first story is never charged.

Does Bellemade ever record my child?

No. Learning mode lets your child try each page and tap words to hear them, but it never records their voice. The only voices Bellemade keeps are grown-ups' who choose to record their own.

Who can see our stories?

Your family. Each family's records are private to that family. If you share a story, it opens only from its private link, which isn't findable in search, and you can turn it off at any time. Because a shared story shows your child's character, share it with people you know.

How is my voice used?

If you choose to record, you say a consent line aloud and read a short passage. ElevenLabs, our voice service, makes a clone of your voice, and each story is narrated in it once and saved. Up to two grown-ups per family can each record their own.

"Delete my voice" removes the clone from ElevenLabs and deletes the saved narration.

What happens if I delete my child's profile?

Their photos, their character and their stories are deleted with it.

Can my child get into settings or payments?

Not by wandering. A grown-up gate sits in front of settings and payments, so little hands stay in the stories.

Why can't my child's favorite movie character be in a story?

Those characters belong to someone else. Instead, your child's favorite becomes an original character with the same spark: a love of a famous princess becomes a brave ice princess of Bellemade's own.
